                    Helen POV
“What do you want?” I asked, knowing his smell was not that of the wolfen kind, but of an entirely new species all together. “You shouldn’t be here.”
He tipped his head, wearing a dazzling white hat with matching ivory suit and shoes. It was an odd choice for a vampire to take. They drink blood; it would stain that suit terribly. He craned his eyes past me, focused on Justin on the floor, sleeping peacefully.
His smile grew larger. “A Lycan. So the rumors are true.”
I centered myself between the man and my slumbered mate. His eyes darted down to my attire but it didn’t matter how much his eyes drank up the sight of me. I didn’t want anyone near Justin until I could be sure he was safe.
A safe vampire? Maybe I am going crazy.
“A delicious wolf girl,” he hummed, his eyes thirsty and shifting colors right before me. They were a matted gray before, but now they burned crimson like my cheeks. “I can see why the Lycan is exhausted. I would be too after—”
“Shut up,” I growled.
His brow raised. “Easy, puppy. I didn’t mean any offense.” He took his hat off, bowing slightly but keeping his focus safe on my face and not my scandalous outfit. “I am Geoffrey. The hotel owner where you two rogues find yourself inside tonight.”
“We’re not rogues,” I said, watching him a little more carefully. “What do you want with Justin?”
He paused, adjusting the white coat of his suit that held silver buttons. Upon looking closer at them, I could see they weren’t buttons for use, but instead they were the ends of bullets. Sharp, silver bullets.
I hissed and tried to shut the door, his hand finding the frame and his foot kicking into the path. Even with my newfound strength as a Snow White, there was no winning a pulling and pushing match with a vampire.
“Filthy fucking bloodsucker,” I snarled under my breath.
His cheerful smile fell with my words. “Let me in, or I will—”
“You will what?” Justin snapped, charging across the room while his eyes pierced my wolf.
He was furious already, the exact opposite of what I wanted when answering the door so he wouldn’t wake up. He held an arm around my back, pulling me to the side while looking up and down the sight of the vampire in the threshold.
“Lycan. I am Geoffrey. I was just introducing myself to your little wolf here,” he said, winking at me once. Justin pulled me tighter, shielding me behind his back more than before. Geoffrey sneered. “I was trying to explain myself but she was too stubborn to listen.”
Justin’s eyes trailed, just as mine had. His claws extended and I felt it on my hip, thankful it wasn’t enough to puncture a wound.
“The bullets on your coat,” Justin growled. “You come here to insult us?”
Geoffrey glanced down, catching the sight of the buttons of his coat in pour taste for a couple of wolves in his doorway. “Oh my, I hadn’t even considered. Where are my manners?”
He took the coat and threw it to the floor, down the hall. He waved the notion aside like an afterthought.
“If we have that settled, I need to come in so I can get acquainted with you both.”
“Why?” I blurted.
Justin groaned a noise of warning. He didn’t like this man, let alone when his attention would flicker toward me in my revealing lingerie. Geoffrey kept his eyes on Justin though, aware of the tension.
“I haven’t seen a wolf around these parts in centuries. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about,” he said with a warm grin, even though it was splayed over cold features. “A Lycan, at that. I’m curious. If we hit things off, I do own the place, I can make your night here very exciting for you both.”
I didn’t want to trust him but it was obviously out of my hands by now. Geoffrey nodded while Justin let him into the room, uttering his permission. It would be the ultimate death of a human but I don’t think vampires can’t drink our blood.
If they did, I heard they would suffer a terrible death, but I could never get a straight answer on that. We haven’t been around them in our packs. They stay out there, masquerading as humans while we live perpendicular to them both.
Justin leaned into my scalp, breathing through my hair, “go upstairs and change, Helen.”
I nodded while my mate entertained the vampire, something oddly cold about their gazes on me. I looked to Justin through the railing upstairs, watching as he settled on the couch with Geoffrey. They both sipped on wine but neither would feel its affects.
Justin peered over, but I hid on the floor, out of sight from their slithering gazes.
“What do you want, Geoffrey? My father said the war between you too ended forever ago. I’m not supposed to be out here. You can’t come around staring trouble.”
“I know it, Lycan. His and my history was settled but coming around my side of the world is dangerous, Justin. You can stay here as long as you like and I’ll even keep it from Juden if he comes prowling. But I want something in return.”
Their conversation went silent while my pulse spiked and I hiccupped a noise.
Shock overwhelmed me.
Justin already knew the vampire?!
