Helen POV
“Oh, no. It’s too late.”
He was already in Lycan form, his head stretched up toward the full moon that caused him so much pain. He had been through every full moon with a struggle but this one would be difficult.
We haven’t seen each other since the wizards and the Fae had double-crossed us.
Now he would walk up to see me beaten and near death. The rage that would come from him tonight would spark fear through the world if it were to be live streamed. Juden’s plan will work.
I couldn’t let that happen.
Forcing myself to my knees, I ached in a pain unmatched to any I’ve ever felt. I collapsed forward into the concrete once, then twice, struggling to balance upright after such a horrid beating.
I stood up with a dwelling yelp. Justin’s Lycan began charging forward from the horizon.
Taking a careful step forward, my ankle bone clearly snapped, I hopped forward with my stronger leg to keep upright. I don’t know where Juden is, waiting for his son to lay waste to this world, but I wouldn’t allow.
The Last Lycan stopped in front of me, taking in the sight of my body, of the blood dribbling down my legs from lash marks on my sides and my back.
I gave him a hopeful face, saddened that this is how we meet for the first time in about two weeks of being apart.
“Justin,” I breathed, his name sweet on my lips. “I know you’re in there, I know you still have control. It’s going to be okay. Everything is going to—”
His claws launched forward in the middle of my trying to calm him down. He hand a loose grasp on my chin, pulling me to look aside, his beast’s eyes trailing down the state of my side. I tried to turn, to avoid him seeing it.
He snarled and stepped around me, looping his claws around the back of my neck where he could keep me still while pacing around me. I couldn’t hide the wounds no matter how much I tried.
“It’s not as bad as it looks, Justin, I promise—”
I hissed, his nails lightly brushing over my spine, hitting every single gash that bleeds there. He proved me wrong in that second and in the next, he was furious.
He backed up and released my neck, letting me fall to the ground while I couldn’t balance on my good ankle instead of two. My head spun; my vision dazed with tears while Justin took his ferocity out on the building nearby.
I could only find a color of relief when an attractive man came running from a nearby alley.
I had to double check my hazed vision to make sure it was truly who I thought it was.
“Randy?”
Justin’s future beta came sprinting from the darkness of the mortal world, running right past Justin’s Lycan and scooping me from the road. I yelled out in the movement.
“I know, Helen, I’m sorry. I’m going to fix this, now.”
He turned to face Justin, backing us up slowly as he tore recklessly through this town, leaving splinters in his wake.
“You’re father, though,” I breathed, limp and useless in his arms. “You are loyal to Juden.”
“I am loyal to my future Alpha,” he corrected. “I am always going to me loyal to Justin, no matter what pack we will rule over in the future.”
I felt settled with that claim. He whistled, the noise high-pitched and painful to my ears. It was enough to gather Justin’s focus, his Lycan turning so quick I’m surprised he didn’t fall over.
“I have Helen,” Randy called, staring to back up rapidly while still hallway facing my mate. “If you want her, come and get her!”
He was playing a dangerous game, and I think he understood that. Randy was smart, more than his father and the Alpha King gave him credit for. I was thankful for that edge.
“He’s on his way now,” Randy said, sprinting into the forest. “Juden will try and stop Justin, to prove he is stronger than him. He isn’t ever going to let his son take over the pack.”
I had figured that by now but I don’t understand how it changed.
“He was willing to hand it over before! Why is he doing this now? Why would Juden not let Justin take over the pack when that was the plan for him all along?”
“It was the plan for Justin’s beast to be weakened by mating a virgin on the full moon. It was never the intent for him to become stronger. Juden wants to be remembered as the strongest wolf to ever live. He knows now that he isn’t even the strongest Alpha alive.”
I understood that explanation well, but the running through the woods had begun to be too much.
“Put me down,” I squirmed. “Please, Randy, I can talk him out of this.”
“Juden hurt you because he knew Justin wouldn’t shift after seeing you in this shape,” Randy countered, looking over his shoulder to see my mate racing after us. “Fuck, he’s fast.”
“Put me down. We can’t outrun him forever.”
Randy gave in at last, dropping me gently into a clearing of soft, vibrant grass and stepping away with his arms held up in surrender, drenched in my blood.
The Last Lycan skidded to a stop over me, his aura so intense that I shuddered, falling to my side.
“Justin,” I pleaded, pressing a palm into my harshest wound that I could reach. “I need your help. I need you to shift back.” I hung my head in miserable shame. “I need you to help me heal.”
We both knew what that entailed. I didn’t know if it would work but I had to try something.
Juden will try to twist this in his favor somehow. We have to get Justin calm so this could be over with.
I laid my worn back into the grass, parting my knees promptly. I rubbed my sex carelessly, not really interested in the pleasure of it, but in the effort to entice him to shift.
His Lycan stood firm, though his eyes drank the sight of my body up.
“What are you doing?” Randy asked, confused and blushing when I looked toward him. “This really isn’t the time for a romp in the woods. We have to run.”
“It’s the only thing he knows on the full moon. He knows it will heal me, too. It will work.”
I realized Randy probably didn’t know about the fact that mating with Justin had given us immeasurable strength. I made note to mention that to him later but right now I had to calm Justin’s Lycan and tempt him.
When I looked back to my mate, Justin was back in his mortal form, stroking his throbbing erection while he tried to catch his toiled breath.
“I don’t—want to—hurt you—Helen.”
“I know,” I said back to my mate, relieved to see him shifted back. “It won’t hurt me, Justin. You know it will heal me. You know I want it. Please, Justin. Please, help me.”
He fell to the ground with that plea, pressing into my sex with his large, pulsing erection. I cried out on entrance, arching to accommodate his cock inside of my drenched pussy, thrusting viciously into my pelvis with all his strength.
He leaned forward at some point, kissing my neck and my throat, his lips hot and familiar and so fucking welcomed.
“I missed you, mate,” he snarled into my chest, licking my rough, pointed nipples. “I missed fucking you, too.”
I released my angst, coming on his cock and feeling the gashes smooth on my back. I wiggled my ankle under his weight and could tell it had snapped back into place.
“Helen,” he breathed, giving his last victorious push until he released a strangled moan against my chest. “Ah! Fuck.”
We collapsed into the grass together, sweaty and bloody but okay. We’re okay.
Justin shifted his focus into the tree line, crooking his head. “Oh. Hey, Randy.”
His beta grumbled in utter discomfort. “Yeah. We’re going to discuss this all later. We need to run. Right now.”
“Where will we go?” I asked, Justin helping me stand. “Juden will come after us.”
“I have a place to hide out and trust me, he won’t find us there,” Randy said, waving for us to follow.
Justin stopped. His hand brushing my wrist as I stood on my healed legs.
“Randy, take Helen ahead. I will catch up with you both later.”
“What? No, Justin, we have to—” Randy started. Justin gave him one stern look of control, like an Alpha would, and Randy gave in. “Fine. Be safe. I’m not rescuing you twice. Let’s go, Helen.”
I gave my mate a fleeting look of goodbye, his hands pulling me back suddenly.
We met in a lasting, penetrating kiss. I wanted to melt right here forever in this moment with Justin.
When he pulled the kiss apart, his lips moved to express another affectionate notion.
“I love you too, Helen.”
