The sun had barely risen when Jennie stirred beside me. The warmth of her body against mine was something I wasn't ready to lose just yet, so I stayed still, hoping she wouldn't move away. But I should have known better. Jennie was never one to linger in vulnerability.
Her eyes fluttered open, dark pools of uncertainty meeting mine before she quickly pulled away, rubbing her face as if trying to erase the remnants of last night's intimacy.
"We should get ready," she muttered, standing up and stretching.
I sat up, watching her with a small smirk. "No 'good morning, Lisa'?"
She shot me a sharp look, but I caught the flicker of amusement in her eyes before she turned away. "We have more important things to deal with."
I sighed, knowing she was right but wishing she'd allow herself to be vulnerable for just a little longer.
The Briefing
By the time we joined the others in the main room, the atmosphere was thick with tension. Irene stood by the table, a map spread out before her, while Rosé and Jisoo whispered among themselves. Seulgi leaned against the wall, arms crossed as she studied the blueprint Irene had laid out.
"We have confirmation," Irene said without preamble. "The Revenants are regrouping. They're planning something big, and we need to be ahead of them."
Rosé tapped the map. "Our informant says they're shifting operations to an abandoned warehouse near the outskirts of the city. If we move fast, we can intercept before they make their next play."
Jisoo nodded, her expression hardening. "Then we need to hit them before they expect it. We strike at night."
Jennie folded her arms, her posture commanding. "Lisa, Seulgi, you'll scout ahead. Get us everything we need to know before we make our move."
Seulgi and I exchanged glances before nodding.
Jennie continued, her eyes scanning the room. "This has to be clean. We go in, take them down, and leave no room for retaliation."
Everyone nodded in agreement, but I could see the slight strain in Jennie's shoulders. I wanted to reach out, reassure her, but I knew better than to do it here, in front of the others.
The Mission
The air was thick with anticipation as Seulgi and I made our way toward the warehouse, cloaked in the shadows of the night. My grip on my gun tightened as we approached the perimeter, scanning for guards.
"There," Seulgi whispered, pointing toward a group of men stationed near the entrance. "Four, maybe five."
I nodded, pulling out my earpiece. "Jennie, we have eyes on the target. Heavy guard presence, but nothing we can't handle."
"Good. Stay hidden and keep watch," Jennie's voice crackled through the line. "We move in ten."
As we crouched in the shadows, I couldn't shake the feeling of Jennie's presence lingering in my mind. Even in the heat of the mission, she was there-a distraction I wasn't sure I could afford.
But maybe, just maybe, she was worth the risk.
