The morning sun streamed through the large windows of the penthouse, casting a golden glow over the sleek marble floors. For the first time in weeks, the atmosphere felt lighter-less tense. But that didn't mean the dangers had disappeared. We were simply in a moment of calm before the next storm.
I sat in the living room, sipping my coffee, as Rosé scrolled through her phone beside me. Irene was reading a book, her attention seemingly undisturbed. But I knew better. She was always listening, always watching.
Lisa, Jisoo, and Seulgi had left early for class, and for the first time in a while, I wasn't worried about them. They had proven themselves capable of handling the world we had pulled them into. But that didn't mean they were safe.
"Have you talked to Lisa?" Rosé asked, breaking the silence.
I sighed. "Not since last night."
"She's getting restless."
"I know."
Irene finally looked up from her book. "You can't control her, Jennie. She's not a child."
"She's not ready."
"She thinks she is."
I set my coffee down, rubbing my temples. "And that's what worries me."
Rosé stretched, letting out a soft hum. "Maybe she just needs a distraction."
I raised an eyebrow. "And what do you suggest?"
"A break. A night out. No business, no threats. Just fun."
Irene smirked. "Since when do we do 'fun'?"
Rosé grinned. "Since now."
By evening, plans were set. A private event at an exclusive club in the city-somewhere we could let loose without worrying about rivals or hidden threats. Just us. Just a normal night.
Lisa, Jisoo, and Seulgi were skeptical at first, but I could see the excitement flicker in their eyes.
"We're really doing this?" Jisoo asked as she glanced between us.
"Believe it or not, we do have lives outside of ruling an empire," Rosé teased.
Lisa smirked. "Could've fooled me."
By the time we arrived at the club, the energy was electric. Music pulsed through the air, and the VIP section was already prepared for us. People turned to look, recognizing us instantly, but for once, there was no fear-only curiosity.
Lisa led the way, her confidence drawing attention. She looked at ease here, like she belonged. And maybe she did.
Seulgi was the first to grab a drink, passing them around before raising her glass. "To... whatever this is."
"To a night off," Rosé corrected, clinking her glass against Seulgi's.
Irene smirked. "Let's just hope it stays peaceful."
The night was... different.
For the first time in a long time, I felt like a normal college student. No threats, no enemies, no hidden agendas. Just laughter, teasing, and moments of pure, unfiltered joy.
Lisa and Jisoo dominated the dance floor, moving effortlessly to the beat of the music. Seulgi, usually more reserved, had finally loosened up, laughing as Rosé pulled her toward the bar for another round of drinks.
I sat back, watching them with a small smile.
"They look happy," Irene murmured beside me.
I nodded. "They deserve to be."
"And you?"
I glanced at her. "What about me?"
Irene tilted her head slightly. "Do you deserve to be happy, Jennie?"
The question caught me off guard. I looked back at Lisa, Jisoo, and Seulgi, at the way they had changed, at how far they had come.
I had been so focused on protecting them, guiding them, that I never stopped to think about myself.
Did I deserve happiness?
I didn't have an answer.
For now, I was content watching them live in this moment, free from the weight of our world.
Even if it was just for one night.
