"Sir, we found your wife. She hit up East Coast Cliff about an hour ago," Blake's security guy reported.
The wind was brutal at East Coast Cliff.
By the time Blake got there, a bunch of fishermen were huddled at the edge, talking over each other.
"Mr. Harrison!" his assistant yelled as Blake jumped out of the car. "These guys say some woman just threw herself off the cliff!"
Blake didn't even wait—he was already running full-speed to the edge.
Below, massive waves smashed against razor-sharp rocks. A beige trench coat hung from a rock, whipping around in the wind.
Beige. Just like those torn-up scraps on Studio 7's floor.
The fishermen kept talking, shouting over the wind.
But Blake couldn't hear shit anymore.
His knees gave out, and he dropped to the ground right at the cliff's edge.
He should've seen this coming. East Coast Cliff wasn't random.
This is the cruelest ritual I left him with.
He'd brought me here once before.
I'd smiled, looking out at the water. "If I ever kick the bucket, dump my ashes here."
He'd bitten my earlobe hard. "Shut up with that talk."
Now, on that same damn cliff, all he heard was waves crashing below.
Then it hit him—that night on the balcony—the look in my eyes when his hands were around my throat. Relief.
Oh, so even back then, I'd already planned to punish him the harshest way possible.
"EVELYN!"
His scream got ripped apart by the wind, gone in a second.
His assistant nervously handed him a waterproof bag with my phone inside.
When the screen lit up, Blake's fingers shook like crazy.
Our wedding photo. Still my lock screen.
Please enter password.
Without thinking, he punched in our anniversary.
Unlocked successfully.
Those words cut through him like a knife.
After everything—after three years of him crushing my soul, after our baby, after he'd used my mom's ashes to control me—I still had our fucking anniversary as my password.
My home screen was creepy empty.
Just the basics, plus Photos and Voice Recorder.
He hit play on the recorder.
"Blake," my voice came through crystal clear. "Yeah, my dad was there when your mom fell. That's true."
"But here's what you missed—your mom jumped because of your dad. She knew about his cheating for years, but she sucked it up because she loved him—until she found out he had another kid. A secret son two years older than you. That broke her."
"She was already messed up with depression. To make sure Harrison Industries got dragged through the mud—to screw your dad over—she stripped naked before jumping. My dad showed up when she was already on the wrong side of the railing. He grabbed for her, but the second his hand touched her, she leaned back on purpose."
Blake suddenly remembered how weirdly calm his dad was at the funeral.
He remembered when Dad jumped on a plane right after Mom died
Then he frantically opened my photos.
There it was—a picture he'd never seen before.
His young mom, barefoot, standing outside the balcony rail. Behind her, my dad's hand reaching out, pure panic on his face.
My voice kept going.
"When your mom started falling, my dad didn't let go. He held on until her weight dragged him down too."
"You lost your mom, Blake. But I lost my dad in the exact same moment."
Damn. He'd never once thought about how while he lost his mom, I lost my dad that same day.
He'd never considered that every time he made me beg for forgiveness in front of his mom's picture, my hands around my throat, I was mourning my own dead parent!
His mind flashed to his mom's funeral.
The incense was still burning when his dad took off for Switzerland.
Back then, he was dumb enough to think his dad was just too broken up to stay.
He'd actually respected his dad's "deep love"—which just made him hate me even more.
