Amid all the chatter, Grayson turned to Lindsay with what looked like genuine emotion:
"Lindsay, we've been through hell and back together these past years. Fighting, grinding, weathering every storm side by side."
"Somewhere along the way, I fell for you."
"I couldn't make it official because of Vivian and my son."
"I've always felt like shit about that."
"But now everything's changed."
"My son's dead, and Vivian and I are done."
"Will you marry me?"
"With your talent, I know you'll raise our kid to be absolutely incredible."
With that, Grayson dropped to one knee right there in front of everyone, proposing to his pregnant mistress.
The crowd ate it up:
"Lindsay, say yes! One word and you'll be the richest woman in the state!"
"You two are perfect together—this is just your fairy tale ending. Don't overthink it!"
"Marry him! Marry him!"
Even Grayson's mother grabbed Lindsay's hands, beaming:
"Sweetie, I'm gonna be honest—I adored you from the moment we met."
"And now you're carrying the only Montgomery heir? This is destiny talking!"
"Stop hesitating and say yes to my son. I've already decided—you're the only woman worthy of being Mrs. Montgomery."
The same woman who'd treated me like garbage was now fawning over Lindsay like she was made of gold.
Her eyes were practically sparkling with joy.
Lindsay blushed prettily: "Oh, I'd love to say yes, but..."
She trailed off, shooting a fake-nervous glance in my direction.
Getting the hint immediately, Grayson had someone bring over the divorce papers I'd already signed.
He scrawled his signature with a flourish, then flung the documents in my face:
"Vivian, we're officially done."
"Lindsay's gonna be the one and only Mrs. Montgomery from now on. Don't even think about causing trouble."
"Cross me, and you'll see just how ruthless I can be."
Staring at Grayson's cold, threatening expression, I couldn't help remembering his marriage proposal twenty years ago—how he'd looked me in the eyes and sworn he'd spend his whole life loving and protecting me, never letting anyone hurt me.
Twenty years later, Grayson was still the same guy who'd move mountains for love.
Just not my love anymore.
I looked at him with complete indifference: "Hope you don't regret this, Grayson."
He laughed mockingly: "Regret what?"
"Staying with some trashy nobody like you—now that would be something to regret!"
The elite crowd quickly piled on: "This chick really thinks she's something special. Who the hell would regret divorcing her?"
"Right? Some powerless bottom-feeder who's all talk—what's she good for?"
"She got to play rich housewife for over a decade. That's more luck than her bloodline deserved. If she had half a brain, she'd be on her knees begging the new Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery for scraps."
"Without Grayson, she'll probably be living under a bridge."
Amid all the cruel laughter, Lindsay's smile stretched wide—she looked like she'd already won the ultimate prize.
Just then, a security guard came stumbling through the ballroom doors:
"Mr. Montgomery! Marcus Kane from Manhattan is here!"
"Says he's got a special gift for you!"
