The announcement sent shockwaves through the entire ballroom.
"Marcus from Manhattan? Holy shit, that's the heir to the most powerful family in the city!"
"Not just that—he's the fucking Grim Reaper of Manhattan's elite circle!"
"I heard he doesn't give a damn about anyone up there. Cross him, and you're basically dead!"
"Jesus, Mr. Montgomery really is the king of this state—even Manhattan royalty is flying down here personally to bring him gifts!"
"Grayson, you've been way too modest! You've got connections all the way to Manhattan's first family and never even bragged about it."
"Mr. Montgomery, you gotta help the rest of us out—let's all get rich together!"
Suddenly every elite in the room was staring at Grayson with pure envy and admiration.
Some were already kissing his ass, begging him to introduce them to the Manhattan prince.
Hearing that Marcus himself had come to personally deliver gifts, Lindsay clung to Grayson's arm like he was her lifeline.
She gazed up at him with total worship and adoration.
The Montgomery family members were all puffing out their chests with pride.
Only Grayson looked confused for a moment.
Then, basking in all the ass-kissing, he shot me a supremely arrogant look:
"See that?"
"The heir to Manhattan's most powerful family came here just to give me gifts."
"That's my level of influence."
"What makes you think someone as far above you as me would ever regret losing you?"
Grayson looked at me with pure smugness, practically radiating superiority.
But to me, he just looked like a fucking clown.
Under everyone's eager stares, Marcus made his entrance.
He wore a custom casual suit with several bodyguards trailing behind—looked laid-back but radiated serious power.
The moment Marcus stepped into the ballroom, the whole place went dead silent.
All those usually arrogant elites suddenly had stars in their eyes, putting on their most ass-kissing expressions, hoping to stand out and catch Marcus's attention.
Grayson quickly dropped Lindsay's hand and straightened his collar.
Then he hurried over to Marcus with the most pathetic brown-nosing smile:
"Mr. Kane! Your presence here is such an incredible honor for Montgomery Corp!"
Marcus gave Grayson an amused look, his tone light: "I heard you're like the local kingpin around here. That true?"
Thrilled that his reputation had reached Marcus's ears, Grayson adjusted his tie proudly: "Kingpin might be a stretch, but everyone in the state definitely shows me respect."
Then he sucked up even harder: "Mr. Kane, if you run into any problems while you're in town, just say the word. I can handle anything for you."
Marcus nodded thoughtfully: "Actually, I did run into a little problem."
"I invested in a club on the west side of your city."
"Figured I'd use it as a crash pad when I'm down here."
"But a few weeks back, somebody trashed the place."
Hearing this, Grayson's spine went rigid: "Who the hell would dare mess with your property?"
"I'll take care of that asshole right now!"
The other elites quickly chimed in: "Absolutely! Anyone stupid enough to cross Mr. Kane must have a death wish."
"Mr. Kane, just give us the word and we'll all jump in to help!"
Marcus casually picked at his ear: "Guy named Tommy, I think."
Then he put a hand on Grayson's shoulder, his tone dropping a few degrees: "Word is, he's one of your top guys."
The color drained from Grayson's face instantly.
He swallowed hard, stammering: "I... I had no idea about this."
"Please don't be angry, Mr. Kane. This has to be some kind of misunderstanding. My guy definitely didn't know it was your place."
"If he'd known, he never would've dared mess with you!"
Grayson was shaking with nerves. His voice trembled as he spoke.
Marcus smiled slightly: "Relax."
"Today's Montgomery Corp's thirtieth anniversary, right? I came here to bring you a gift. Remember?"
Seeing no anger on Marcus's face, Grayson let out a huge sigh of relief: "Thank you for being so understanding, Mr. Kane. Having you personally come down here to give me a gift is the greatest honor of my life!"
Marcus chuckled softly without responding.
Then he waved his hand, and his bodyguards brought forward a large box.
Under everyone's watchful eyes, the box was slowly opened.
Inside lay Tommy's severed head.
