He wiped the blood from his face and crawled over to kneel in front of me: "Baby, I know I fucked up."
"I lost my head for a minute and let Lindsay seduce me."
"Please forgive me?"
"From now on, I'll love you and cherish you completely. I'll never hurt you again!"
Even Grayson's mother, who'd always despised me, rushed over to grab my hands: "Sweetie, this whole mess is Grayson's fault. When we get home, I'll give him hell for you."
"But you and Grayson have been married for twenty years—it'd be such a waste to throw that away."
"Besides, all these years I've actually thought you were wonderful—so devoted to your husband and son, so respectful and caring toward me. I really can't bear to lose you."
The other Montgomery family members quickly chimed in: "Absolutely! In our hearts, you're the perfect Mrs. Montgomery."
Watching these people who'd been cursing me out just moments ago now kissing my ass, I couldn't help but laugh sarcastically.
Seeing my smile, the elite crowd thought they'd won me over and dropped to their knees: "Miss Sterling, we were blind and stupid earlier. Please be the bigger person and don't hold it against us!"
"We had no idea who you were—that's why we were so rude. Please don't blame us for our ignorance!"
"Miss Sterling, our family is willing to give up half our assets to apologize for disrespecting you. Please don't hold a grudge!"
"I'll do the same! Whatever it takes to make this right, just tell me what you want!"
These elite snobs who'd just been calling me trash and an embarrassment were now groveling at my feet, crying and begging for forgiveness.
I looked coldly at Grayson kneeling beside me.
Then I scanned the room full of groveling elites.
Without saying a word, I picked up my son's urn and walked out.
When I loved Grayson, he was my whole world.
Now that I didn't, he was just another ant.
Just like all these fair-weather parasites—not worth wasting even one word on.
Later, Marcus texted me that all those elite families had gone bankrupt within twenty-four hours.
Montgomery Corp collapsed that same day.
Everyone ended up homeless with nowhere to go and no one willing to help them.
Grayson couldn't handle the crushing debt and jumped off a building.
When I heard about his death, I felt absolutely nothing.
A year later, while traveling to clear my head, I saw a pack of vicious-looking women chasing someone down the street.
They were screaming as they ran: "You fucking homewrecker! Stealing my husband—we're gonna beat you to death today!"
The woman they were chasing had lost a shoe but didn't dare look back.
I took a closer look—it was Lindsay.
Apparently after Grayson died, she'd gone back to being a mistress and seducing other women's husbands.
Guess some people never change.
