I don't think I stopped smiling the whole way home. It's not just that he kissed me, although that in itself was pretty amazing. It was also the fact that he held my hand when we walked out, and I'm pretty sure I saw him smirking at the guy who was staring at me earlier. He didn't say much on the car ride home, but it wasn't an awkward silence, and he smiled whenever our eyes met.
I think even he was surprised at how he had acted, and as soon as we got to the palace, he went off to do some princely thing he was supposed to have done before we left.
Open arriving at our rooms, I was surprised to hear voices coming from inside. Since it was my rooms, I wasn't scared to go in. It was probably just the maids or something. Maybe there are guy maids here or something.
I opened the door to see Alan and Jay sitting on the couch, and Cameron standing a few feet away, in the middle of a telling some story. My smile widened, if possible, and I ran over and jumped on Cameron.
"It's about time you got here! We've been waiting in here for an hour." He informed me after squeezing the life out of me.
"I was eating dinner."
"So we heard. You look pretty dressed up. Was it a date?" He and Jay exchanged a glance that I was too busy thinking about Thomas to notice.
"I guess you could call it that." I walked towards the bedroom, pulling off my tie as I went.
"If that lovestruck smile says anything at all, I'd guess that things are going pretty good between you two."
It was Jay who spoke this time, and I turned to grin at him.
"I think they are. He kissed me for the first time tonight." Remembering the feel of his lips on mine, I almost brought my hand to touch where they had been, but I remembered that I wasn't alone and that Cameron would no doubt laugh at me if I did.
"Then things are definitely going good! What made him kiss you? Was it good?" Cameron was almost jumping with excitement.
"This guy was staring at me, and he got all jealous and it was super cute. And yes of course it was. It was amazing."
"So where is he now? Shouldn't you guys be like sucking each others face off right about now?"
"Cameron, shut up. We are taking things really slow. In fact, I don't think he would have kissed me if it hadn't been for that guy."
"Then get him jealous again and get some. It hurts my heart to see you two throwing away this perfect opportunity. I mean you guys sleep in the same room!"
By this time was thoroughly embarrassed and wished Cameron would stop. I stood there, awkwardly playing with the tie in my hands.
"How am I supposed to get him jealous again? It's not like I planned for that guy to be there."
"I'm so glad you asked. Take a seat." He pointed to a chair that I reluctantly loved towards, knowing that this conversation was just going to get a whole lot more awkward.
"Well it seems to me that if a guy looking at you got him to kiss you for the first time, you kissing some other guy should do the trick."
"I'm not kissing some random—"
"No not someone random. Someone you know so that they know you aren't serious."
"Cameron, this is ridiculous , and will only make things complicated. Besides, I'm not kissing you, if that's what you mean."
"I wasn't thinking me."
"Well, it's not like I know anyone else here at the palace."
"I was thinking Jay."
"Wait! Why me?" Jay hadn't been paying much attention to our conversation, but I now say that Cameron had his undivided attention.
"Because, I'm not going to kiss him. That would just be weird, but you could."
"Why would it be weird for you and not weird for me?"
"Because you haven't known him as long as me."
"That's bullshit!
"Guys! I'm not kissing anyone!" I yelled to get their attention. "This is a stupid idea, and I'm not doing it."
""But why not? Trust me, it will work."
"It won't." I folded my arms across my chest, and Cameron sighed.
"What do you think, Alan?"
Alan, who had been staring down at his hands, looked up quickly, surprised that his opinion was being asked.
"Umm...to be honest, I think your idea is stupid, Cameron." His cheek were tinged pink, and he looked over at Jay for protection in case he had gotten Cameron mad. Jay sniggered and threw an arm around Alan's shoulders.
"He's right, Cam. It's a bad idea, and I'm not kissing him. Not after last time."
"You guys are all—wait! What the fuck?" His eyes went between me and Jay, unable to process what he had just heard.
"Good job, Jay." I sent him a withering look, but he didn't even bother to look at all penitent.
"You're welcome." He didn't bother to say anything else, and Cameron looked like he might explode.
"And you aren't going to explain? Why am I just now hearing of this?"
"Because it's none of your business. I hadn't asked you to tell me about all the people you've kissed."
"Because the list is too long! But this is different. You guys are both my best friends. When did this happen?"
"Like thr—"
"If anyone is telling this story, it's going to be me." Jay cut in before I could finish my sentence."
"Why not me?"
"Because I know you are going to tell it bad, and leave things out." I knew what he was talking about, and I had meant on leaving it out.
"Fine. Go ahead."
"Alright, so, about three years ago, when you were dating that really annoying girl, I can't really remember her name."
"Alice?" Cameron guessed, and Jay nodded.
"Yeah, that one. Well, you were dating her and completely ignoring your best friends, aka me and Alex."
"So you guys kissed to make yourselves feel better?"
"No, but that's why we didn't tell you. You just weren't there."
"Ah, I see." Cameron was now sitting down on one of the chairs, and listened attentively to everything Jay said. I think that this had to be one of the few times he wasn't he one dominating the conversation.
"Alex had a major crush on me."
"It was not major!" He raised his eyebrow incredulously at me, but decided not to argue the point.
"Alex had a crush on me, and said he'd had it forever almost a year but didn't want to say anything because he thought I liked someone else. I'd decided to let that other person figure out if they like me or not, and stop worrying about them so much, so I thought I might as well kiss him and see if I liked him."
"Very cute." Cameron muttered sarcastically.
"It might have been, if Alex had started giggling like a second after we started kissing."
I buried my face in my hands, Jay's deep laugh filling the room.
"And so we really only kissed for a few seconds, and never even dreamed of kissing again."
"In my defense, it just felt so weird to be kissing my friend, and you did have stubble that morning which was super ticklish."
Even Alan was laughing, and Cameron was still staring at me with eyes that screamed betrayal.
"I can't believe you never told me that."
"Why should I? I can kiss whoever I want."
"Oh can you now?"
I almost fell off my chair in my hurry to turn around. Somehow in all the excitement of the story, I hadn't heard the door open. Thomas was standing just inside the door, an amused twinkle in his eye. But there was something else there as well that I couldn't quite put my finger on.
"Well, see you around, Alex." I turned back around to see all three of them standing up and heading for the door.
"Are you all seriously abandoning me?" I whispered in Cameron's ear. All I got in reply was a wink, and before I knew it, all my friends had said their goodbyes and left me alone with Thomas.
"Now what was that you were saying?"
