So I was kind of left with three options. Follow the whining man, stay with his brother, or go exploring on my own. I chose the last option.
It was only a minute before I was helplessly lost, but no one was really around, so I decided I'd just keep exploring.
I stumbled into a room that must have been someone's living room. It was much more comfortable looking than most I had seen so far. Maybe that had something to do with the fact that it was smaller and less grand then others. I was about to leave when I heard voices and footsteps.
"Come back here! I'm trying to talk to you." Elliot walked in.
"When you are done being an asshole, I will converse with you!" He called over his shoulder, then looked forward and noticed me. Confusion flashed across his eyes, but he smiled nonetheless.
"Sorry to interrupt, but I'm lost."
"Oh I see! I was wondering how the hell you got here. Well, you have stumbled upon my humble abode, so sit down and make yourself at home.
This is my beautiful living room, and attached is another beautiful sitting room-"
"Elliot, I'm done being an asshole, I promise! Let's talk." A man, probably in his late teens, walked into the living room from the other room. He noticed me, and glanced at Elliot quickly.
"And that is my beautiful friend named Alan. And Alan, that is the door." The man took his hint, and walked towards the door. He was about to leave, but I was curious to know more about him.
"I'm Alex." I cut in, and held out my hand for the man to shake.
"Alan." He was a inch or two shorter than me, His blue eyes glanced at Elliot, who huffed.
"I suppose you can stay." Alan grinned, and plopped down on the couch next to where Elliot had just sat down.
"Alan is a Viscount, so you are gonna be way higher up then him when you marry Thomas." Alan started and looked at me with pity.
"You're marrying Thomas? That guy's an asshole! What are you marrying him for?"
"Well, that's encouraging to know." Elliot whacked Alan's arm sharply.
"Thomas may be an asshole, but that's doesn't mean you get to call him one. Alex is marrying him so that all gays in our country can have the right to get married. His marriage seals the deal with my father."
Alan looked at me in admiration. "You would marry a homophobic prick-" Elliot whacked his arm again, and he rubbed it gingerly.
"I didn't even say asshole!"
"You're right, you didn't. Sorry about that. Carry on." He patted Alan's arms gently, where he had just whacked him.
"I was saying, before I got so rudely I interrupted, that you would marry a homophobic prick like Thomas for that?" His eyes held a respect, and they met Elliot's quickly.
"Yes." I seriously was reconsidering this whole thing. Thomas was getting worse and worse as far as I could see.
"I would kiss you right now if you weren't about to get married." Tears stood out in his eyes, and I think seeing their faces made me remember why this was worth it.
"That's fine. You don't have to kiss me to let me know you are happy. I can tell. I'm guessing you are into men as well?"
"Well, not really men, more like a man." He looked over at Elliot, and my slow mind finally put all the pieces together. "If only..." His voice trailed off, and his fist clenched angrily on his knee.
"Do you guys want to talk? I feel like I'm interrupting something. I can go.." I stood up, heading for the door. Neither of them seemed to really be listening to me, but Elliot seemed to realize their was someone else in the room, and looked over at me.
"No, you don't have to go, Alex. You probably need help settling in and all that."
"Yeah, come sit down." Alan called out, his anger seeming to have disappeared. Elliot's hand was resting gently on his, and that seemed to have grounded him.
Now I felt really bad for being here. They probably were talking about Elliot's upcoming marriage, and that must be hard on them. I really hoped then that Elliot's Dad wouldn't make him marry that king.
Because those two were seriously adorable.
"I was just leaving anyways." Alan leaned over and whispered something in Elliot's ear before getting up out of his seat, and heading for the door.
I returned to my seat, but I really wished it was me leaving and not Alan. Elliot was gazing after him sadly, and when the door closed, he took a moment to snap back into focus.
"So, Alex, do you have a family?" His smile was back, and he looked like he didn't want me to talk about what had just happened.
"Shit! I need to call them!" He grinned, and grabbed a pillow, pulling it to his chest.
"You should call them right now! I want to hear what you mom or Dad says when they find out!" I pulled out my phone, feeling guilty for not putting my mom out of her worry.
"I'm going to call my mom. I live with her and my sister. Well, lived, I guess." He nodded sympathetically. It was a lot to get used to.
The phone rang a few times before my mom answered.
"Alexander! Are you alright, son? They didn't hurt you or anything?" I had her on speaker so Elliot could hear, and her concerned voice only heightened my guilt. I should have called an hour ago.
"Mom, I'm fine. Nothing happened to me."
"Oh, oh good. I was so worried about you, Alexander." I played with my hands, not sure how to say the next thing.
"So what did they want you for?" Elliot nodded encouragingly at me, and I took a deep breath.
"The king is going to make gay marriage legal tomorrow."
"Oh honey! That's amazing! How did you get him to do it?"
"I-I agreed to marry one of the princes, so that the royal family could show its support." There was silence on the other line, and I almost wished I didn't have her on speaker . But I already trusted Elliot, and didn't mind him hearing the conversation.
"But Alex...do you...do you want to?" I sighed, running a hand through my hair.
"Mom, I don't really have a choice. It's either that or no gays can get married. The king drives a hard bargain."
"Oh I see. Does that mean you are staying at the castle now?"
"I think so. I'll probably be able to come get my stuff soon." I could hear talking on the other side, and suddenly my sister's voice cut loudly through the speaker.
"Dude, what the hell! You are marrying a prince?"
"Umm, yeah-"
"Is it Prince Elliot? It has to be! He's the only gay one!" Elliot looked slightly embarrassed, and I laughed.
"No, actually, it's-"
"Raymond? Oh my god, that man is soooo hot!" Now Elliot liked really uncomfortable.
"Bethany, stop! It's Prince Thomas!"
"You are marrying Prince Thomas? The homophobic dude who wouldn't hire the gay guy for whatever that was, and got into a shitload of trouble with the media?"
"Umm, yep, that guy." Yeah, that did sound pretty bad.
"That sounds like a really bad idea. The dude's probably gonna run away from you, or just be rude. Oh, if he is, I will end him!" I looked at Elliot who was trying his best to not burst out laughing.
"While you are there, you can confirm all the rumors I've been hearing. Like, is Elliot really dating a duke, and is Raymond as much of a playboy as the magazines say he is, and is -"
"Alright, alright! I'll keep you posted!"
"Okay, sounds like a plan. Well call me again soon, okay?"
"Will do. Bye."
"Bye." I ended the call, and Elliot burst out laughing.
"Oh my god! I love that the first thing she thought of was you finding out gossip for her! I like your sister."
"Yeah, shes great. So what's this about a duke?"
"Now that, I couldn't tell you. I haven't heard this rumor."
"So, it's false?"
"Yes, indeed!"
"And what about a Viscount?"
"Oh, Alan?" His eyes clouded over and I realized that maybe this was too personal of a question.
"Yeah, I guess we were dating." I felt bad for bringing it up. He looked about ready to cry. I hated my big mouth right then.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked." He smiled slightly, and shook his head.
"No, it's fine. It's just that I talked to my dad again, and the plans are definitely in motion. I've loved Alan for years, but being with him is just a childish dream."
"But can't you-"
"There is no possible way for us to be together. Father would never allow it. Now we just need to learn how to say goodbye."
