Blake's proposal blew up that night. Like, broke-the-internet blew up.
I wasn't there to see it, but my social media blew up with pics of the event, the perfect couple, and their "love at first sight" bullshit.
Everyone was eating it up.
The whole damn amusement park looked like something out of a movie. Blake had personally handled every detail, and it showed.
He'd invited literally everyone we knew—close friends, random acquaintances, people he'd probably met once. Dude wanted an audience.
Every guest got some expensive custom gift bag just for showing up.
Even the fancy roses everywhere? Blake planted those himself for Sophia.
Since she was Disney-obsessed, he'd dropped a fortune on a three-hour fireworks show that probably cost more than my college education.
Every inch of the place screamed "I'M OBSESSED WITH THIS GIRL."
Friends walked around gawking, practically drooling with jealousy.
"Parker treats Sophia like she's royalty. Heard he took one look at her and fell head over heels—she ticked every box on his crazy list."
"If I could lock down a guy like Parker, I'd die happy..."
"Wonder how Liv feels watching this circus after following him around like a puppy for years."
Blake didn't care about most of the gossip, but when he overheard that last bit, his face went dark.
"I never had a thing for Liv. Sophia's my only love. Say that crap again and you're dead to me."
The guy backpedaled fast, and Blake walked off satisfied.
By 8 PM, the place was packed. His fancy car service was about to drop Sophia off.
He was probably relieved I hadn't shown. That would've been awkward as hell.
I'd been chasing him forever. Seeing him propose might've made me lose it, I guess.
But my text from earlier was bugging him.
Why'd I say "we won't see each other again"?
He didn't want to date me, but we had history. I'd been good to him.
If I could just act normal and respect boundaries, we could still hang out.
I'd stuck by him for years. He appreciated that, even if he wasn't into me.
Blake grabbed his phone and fired off a text:
[Where you at?]
Right as he sent it, the event planner knocked.
"Mr. Parker, showtime. Need you downstairs for your entrance."
Blake tossed his phone aside. "Coming."
He missed the red exclamation point next to his message—the universal sign for "blocked, sucker."
Following the script, Blake stood at the end of this ridiculously gorgeous flower path, waiting for Sophia's grand entrance.
He tried to look all dreamy-eyed as his perfectly styled girlfriend walked toward him.
He'd been planning this for weeks. Should've been pumped. But watching his picture-perfect Sophia approach, he felt weirdly... empty.
Something was off.
The woman before him: 5'6", golden curly hair, pale skin, teardrop mark by her eye...
She checked every damn box, but suddenly Blake realized he wasn't feeling that rush anymore.
He caught himself thinking about me.
Always smiling with that cute little fang tooth, eyes all lit up like Christmas.
My personality wasn't the cool, quiet type he thought he wanted. I'd bounce over to him, all energy, yelling his name.
"Blake."
"Blake."
Sophia caught him spacing out and frowned:
"Blake, you okay?"
Blake snapped back, remembering he was in the middle of proposing to Sophia—not me—his supposed true love.
Looking at his checklist dream girl, he forced a smile:
"Nothing. You look gorgeous tonight."
Right on cue, a drone buzzed over with the ring. Blake grabbed it.
Under the giant Ferris wheel, he dropped to one knee and popped the question.
Sophia blushed, gave him that shy smile, and nodded:
"Yes."
Everyone started chanting: "Kiss her! Kiss her!"
He should've gone for it without thinking, but looking at her waiting face, he hesitated.
Blake glanced toward the entrance, but it was empty. No sign of me.
Years ago, I told him every girl dreams of a fairy tale proposal.
That's why the amusement park idea had popped into his head.
Back then, he'd joked:
"If I haven't found my dream girl by then, I'll rent out an amusement park and propose to you."
He knew he was just talking shit.
But my face had lit up like he'd already given me the ring.
Now here he was, mid-proposal, and the girl who once dreamed about this exact moment wasn't even there.
This should've been his perfect night, but something felt wrong.
Was I actually serious about disappearing from his life?
