The thought hit Blake like a truck, but he shook it off fast.
He was convinced I was obsessed with him. No way I'd actually bail.
In his mind, I loved him enough to practically die for him—no chance I'd ghost just because he was putting a ring on someone else.
I'd gotten drenched getting his meds. Stayed up all night while he got wasted. Ran all over town for those stupid sneakers he had to have.
He figured I was probably just playing hard to get, waiting for him to chase me down.
I could almost picture the smirk on his face at the thought.
Whatever game he thought I was playing, he wasn't falling for it. His perfect woman, the only one he'd ever love, was Sophia.
Sophia was what he'd waited twenty-three years for. His dream girl. They were literally meant for each other.
With that cleared up in his head, he focused back on Sophia, looking deep into her eyes:
"Sophia, I'll say it again—I love you. The second I saw you, I was done for. I never thought I'd want to settle down until you walked into my life."
Hearing that, Sophia teared up, beaming like she'd won the lottery.
She threw herself at him, their bodies fitting together perfectly.
The proposal went off without a hitch. The fireworks show had Sophia crying happy tears.
Everything in Blake's master plan worked perfectly.
I didn't show up and cause drama. Sophia looked flawless. Even his speech nailed it.
But only Blake knew the proposal wasn't as perfect as it looked.
For some reason, my face kept popping into his head.
He couldn't figure out why this was happening.
While Sophia was busy with her friends, Blake slipped back to grab his phone.
When he saw that red exclamation point by his message, his stomach dropped.
In all these years, no matter what crap he pulled, I had never blocked him.
Was this just another attention-seeking move on my part?
Blake scowled and called my number:
"Liv, you—"
All he got was the robot voice:
"Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently switched off. Please try again later..."

Blake slammed his phone against the wall.
I actually had the balls to block him?
When had I ever done that before?
Blake decided to drop it. After all, I had nobody else in this city except him.
He'd track me down eventually, and I'd come running back.
No matter how pissed I was, he thought I was too hooked on him to stay away. Even with him marrying Sophia, I wouldn't be able to quit him.
That thought calmed him down a bit.
But still, I was alone here. No real friends besides him.
Blake made another call.
"Find Liv. When you do, bring her to me."
That night, just as they killed the lights, Blake's phone lit up with a message.
He headed to his office where one of his guys was waiting.
"What did you just say?!" Blake snapped.
The guy shifted nervously: "Last trace of her phone was at the airport."
"Nobody in the country can reach her..."
"We think she left the country... no idea where she went..."
"Sir, do you know any of her friends? Maybe they might know where she's at."
As Blake listened, his mind went completely blank.
He thought I was just playing games when I said we wouldn't see each other again. He never thought I'd actually hop on a plane and disappear for real!
Who the hell did I think I was?!
Rage boiled inside him as he muttered:
"Liv..."
"Sir...?"
His guy stood there terrified, not daring to say another word.
Blake took a deep breath, suddenly realizing that
I'd stayed in the country just for him, but he'd never bothered learning anything about my life. How would he know who my friends were?
In his head, I only existed to orbit around him.
"That's all for now. Keep looking."
I just couldn't handle seeing him with Sophia, that's all. He refused to believe that I, who'd spent years worshipping the ground he walked on, would never come back!
