Blake's guy bolted out the door. Minutes later, Blake was in his fancy car heading to the mall.
The Parker Shopping Plaza was crazy exclusive. The security guard tried to stop him at the entrance:
"Sir, this is members-only—"
"Move!" The manager spotted him and practically had a heart attack: "What are you doing?! That's Mr. Parker, you idiot!"
Blake stormed past them straight to the VIP lounge upstairs.
Just thinking about seeing Sophia had softened his face.
But as he reached for the door, he heard laughter inside...
"Sophia, you're a freaking genius. You've got Blake Parker wrapped around your little finger," her friend giggled.
"We all saw that proposal livestream. The man is completely obsessed with you."
Sophia let out this smug little laugh: "All thanks to his stupid checklist."
"I just tweaked my look to match what he wanted, and boom—instant dream girl."
"But do you actually like him?" her friend asked. "He's done everything for you—dumped that Liv girl who'd been his shadow for years, gave you a kidney, and God knows what else. You must be falling for him by now, right?"
"Well, I was only after his money at first, but seeing how he worships me," Sophia chuckled, "I guess I could learn to love him for real."
"That car accident was actually my test. They say near-death experiences make relationships stronger."
"It wasn't until he offered me his kidney that I actually started to care."
I can imagine Blake's hand freezing on the door.
Her friend asked: "What about his feelings for Liv? I heard they were together forever. There must have been something there?"
"Liv was just his pathetic little lapdog," Sophia's voice dripped with satisfaction. "She might have followed Blake around like a lost puppy, doing everything for him, but he only had eyes for me. She was just a toy he could use and toss aside."
She lowered her voice, her laugh turning mean:
"I was actually a little threatened by how devoted she was, so I made sure she saw us together all the time."
"You should have seen her face when I stole that dress she wanted or when Blake chose me over her during the fire. The look on her face when he abandoned her was priceless."
Blake must have felt like someone had punched him in the gut.
Her friend sounded interested: "Is Liv still hanging around your man?"
"No idea where she went. Haven't seen her in ages," Sophia said like she couldn't care less. "Probably hiding somewhere, playing hard to get to make Blake notice her."
"But get this—after she taught me how to make that chicken soup, she sent me this ridiculous list of things Blake likes and hates. How he loves gaming, collects sneakers, watches sports, hates mangoes. Poor idiot doesn't get that Blake will never love her no matter what she does."
Sophia's voice was casual: "I don't need to know any of that stuff. I could do absolutely nothing, and Blake would still worship me and give me everything. That's actually why I kind of like him."
Every word was totally different from the sweet, gentle girl she pretended to be with him.
Blake must have stood there frozen, not even noticing when his phone hit the floor.
The voices inside stopped instantly. Then came Sophia's suspicious: "Who's there?"
Blake probably closed his eyes, turned, and walked away looking like he'd seen a ghost.
"Don't tell her I was here," I bet he told the staff as he passed.
In some executive lounge upstairs, Blake sat smoking, his face all dark and broody.
He must have been replaying Sophia's words in his head.
She had literally redesigned herself to match his stupid checklist.
She hadn't even liked him at first—she'd just wanted his money.
She deliberately made sure I saw them together, intentionally trying to hurt me.
Through the smoke, he probably remembered my face, always watching out for him...
My reminders to eat properly, my shaking hands when I patched him up, my final text: "Blake, good luck with the proposal. As you wished, we won't see each other again."
All these years, the woman he'd put on a pedestal turned out to be complete trash.
While I, who he'd treated like dirt, was the one who truly cared about him.
The cigarette probably burned his fingers, but he was too shocked to notice.
His hand must have moved to his stomach, where the kidney donation scar was still fresh.
The girl he'd been ready to die for had been playing him from the start.
He couldn't understand how everything had gone so wrong.
After a while, he made a call.
"Look into Sophia's background. I want everything—every single detail about her past."
