So guess what? I'd gone international with the London Symphony Orchestra.
It was my concert poster that finally blew my cover, letting Blake's goons track my ass down.
The second Blake found out, he jumped on a plane that same night.
Dude was desperate to see me.
He wanted to apologize in person, admit he'd been a total dick, and confess that I was the one he actually loved all along.
He hoped I'd forgive him and come running back.
But I was performing everywhere, constantly flying to different cities.
He couldn't keep up with my schedule, so he just camped outside my apartment like a stalker, waiting for me to show up.
Until today, when he finally spotted me. Seeing my face put this stupid excited look on his.
His eyes lit up as he started walking toward me.
But just as he was about to yell "Liv," he froze like someone hit pause.
Because right when I stepped out, a tall guy appeared next to me.
This dude was hot—easily as good-looking as Blake, maybe even nicer looking.
I must've said something funny, because he leaned down to hear me better.
Blake was losing his shit, jealousy practically making him foam at the mouth.
How dare I be with another guy?
Did this dude know I'd spent years with Blake? Did he know how bad I used to have it for Blake?
Watching us hug, Blake couldn't stop himself:
"Liv!"
When I heard that voice, I froze.
Blake and I grew up together, and I'd spent so many years following him around. His voice was burned into my brain.
It hit me like a truck.
Pressing into Ethan's arms, I couldn't stop shaking as I whispered:
"That's him—the guy I told you about. The one I wasted five years on back home."
Ethan's eyes flashed like lightning.
He rubbed my back to calm me down.
Then he pushed me behind him, squeezed my hand and said quietly:
"Don't worry. I got you."
In a split second, Ethan's face went ice cold.
Without missing a beat, he spun around and threw a punch straight at Blake's face!
Blake never saw it coming.
Even though he used to be pretty quick, giving Sophia his kidney had messed him up.
Plus, he'd been drinking himself stupid, drowning in misery after I left.
Between the booze and not sleeping for days, he couldn't dodge the hit and went down hard.
He couldn't even get his ass off the ground.
Ethan stood over him, looking down like Blake was nothing.
His eyes were dead cold, like he was looking at a roach.
Blake had never been so embarrassed in his life.
He tried to look past Ethan, desperately searching my face for some pity.
But I just stood there, giving him absolutely nothing.
I didn't say a single word. Wouldn't even look at his pathetic ass.
When Ethan turned back to me, I immediately checked his hand, worried he'd hurt himself.
Realizing my place wasn't safe anymore, we bounced.
Ethan took me to his apartment.
Blake was left on the ground, watching us walk away together.
I didn't want to think about why Blake showed up.
He'd already found his perfect little princess, already found who he wanted to spend his life with.
Why was he stalking me now?
But whatever. From the moment I gave up on him, nothing he did mattered to me anymore.
I just wanted to live my life.
So neither of us brought up what happened that night.
This was the first time I'd crashed at a guy's place who wasn't Blake.
But since Ethan and I were dating, and technically engaged, staying over was no big deal.
At dinner, Ethan couldn't take his eyes off me.
"Is the food okay?" "Want some more rice?"
My ears got all hot, but damn it felt good.
With Blake, he never gave a shit about me like this. I was always the one babysitting him.
Ethan was the first guy to actually treat me like I mattered.
I bit my lip, then fixed his sleeve that had rolled down.
Then, my eyes crinkling with a smile, I ladled a bowl of soup for him and murmured softly: "Careful, it's hot."
Ethan looked surprised for a second, then broke into this warm smile that made my heart do stupid things.
