"I just wanted to bring you some food, you work so hard..."
Elon glanced at the spilled food on the floor, his face flickering with annoyance and disgust.
But he still spoke words of concern for me.
"You should stay at the market, there's no need to come all this way."
He didn’t know how much I’d overheard. When he asked, I lied, saying I’d just arrived.
Stacy, unbothered by being caught, shoved me hard before leaving, flashing her glittering diamond ring at me.
Elon insisted on sending me home, carefully supporting my belly.
"Emma, I’m a secretary here, still on probation. You don’t need to come again."
I took the milk he had prepared for me and drank it without hesitation.
As soon as I got home, I threw up everything.
I opened Elon’s room and found the abortion pills he’d been slipping into my milk.
The bottle was nearly half empty.
All the items in his room had been secretly replaced, and even with the labels torn off, the price was still obvious.
In this small rented apartment, they seemed out of place.
I pried open his safe and found a video tape and a carefully preserved wooden box.
The screen flickered before focusing on a dirty and messy face.
It was me at eighteen, trapped in a bathroom, my uniform marked with red ink, forced to drink from a mop bucket.
Stacy’s laughter echoed as she dragged my unconscious body up, pressing a burning cigarette into my collarbone.
"Let’s play a game. Whoever loses has to befriend Emma and deceive someone who has nothing. Doesn’t that sound fun?"
"And who do you think will lose?"
"Of course, it's that bastard, Elon. They actually match each other."
That day was the first time someone helped me.
Elon treated my wounds. He told me he was an orphan, and we became friends.
Three years after graduation, I found him injured in the slums and brought him home.
The dream that started in high school was just a laughable bet.
With every bullying, Elon stood by and watched coldly.
I took a deep breath, called my doctor, and asked about inducing an abortion.
I wanted to personally end this pregnancy and leave Elon.
The wooden box contained not jewelry, but a pendant.
The one I’d given Elon three years ago, when I saved him from jumping off a rooftop.
But the engraving of my name on the plastic cat had been scratched away.
In its place was “SD—Stacy.”
