I leaned out the window to look for him, seeing him standing downstairs under the warm yellow streetlight that stretched his shadow long.
I hurriedly changed clothes and prepared to go downstairs.
Dominic was rarely home, but seeing me about to go out, he suddenly asked: "Where are you going?"
"To see a friend."
"A friend - you mean the one standing downstairs, right?"
I looked at him coldly, not even turning my head back: "So what if it is?"
He suddenly lost emotional control, gripping my hand tightly and forcefully pulling me back: "Evelyn, just try going to see him!"
Looking at our confrontational stance, I found it truly laughable.
In the past at times like this, we'd be cuddled together on the sofa watching TV, eating our favorite snacks, watching variety shows we loved, the house filled with mine and Dominic's laughter.
Darian waited downstairs for quite a while. When I didn't come down, he called me again.
Dominic saw that I had Darian saved as "Darling" in my phone.
His veins bulged with anger as he snatched my phone and answered: "Evelyn won't be coming down. Leave immediately."
I reached over to grab the phone back, but he smashed it to pieces on the floor.
I had truly tolerated him for too long, and couldn't bear it anymore.
I jumped up and slapped him: "Dominic, do you really think you're something special?"
"Do you want me to list all the things you've done? You think I don't know?"
"You bought your omega mistress a house, and as she's about to graduate, you arranged a job for her too."
"What, joining the company as your secretary? Developing office romance?"
"Since we're all just playing around, let's have fun - nobody should interfere with anyone else."
After my rapid-fire outburst, I felt much more comfortable.
Indeed, it's better to exhaust others than exhaust yourself.
He once held me as precious as a gem too. I was someone he pursued for a long time before winning over. Four years of university, working hard together to complete our studies.
In the fourth year after our bonding ceremony, he often came home very late, telling me he was busy and asking me to understand.
Later it evolved into frequent nights away from home, his clothes carrying perfume scents I disliked.
I told myself that work inevitably involved entertainment.
Until one day when he drank too much, his phone kept dinging with multiple messages.
"Dear Alpha, are you home yet?"
"You drank too much today, you should have just rested at my place."
"Can you send me a message when you get home?"
Seeing these messages, my head was buzzing.
I didn't sleep all night.
The next morning, I confronted him with the phone asking what was going on.
He told me that yesterday during entertainment, some drinking companion omega insisted on adding his WeChat and wouldn't let up.
He swore he absolutely hadn't done anything to betray me.
I cried: "Are you still lying to me?"
"Evelyn, I've already explained to you. She's just a drinking companion omega. Can't you calm down?"
"I'm busy and dizzy every day, having to go to entertainment at night. I'm already very tired. Can't you avoid making me face your suspicion and interrogation when I come home?"
"Me calm down? Me suspicious? Me interrogating? Today's message - there's definitely something fishy. How can you expect me to believe you?"
"Believe it or not, that's up to you."
After saying this, he got up and left.
I finally couldn't help but cry out loud. He heard it, but had no reaction.
During that period, I couldn't sleep night after night, relying entirely on sleeping pills to get by.
Darian heard our arguing downstairs and, worried something might happen to me, turned around and came upstairs.
He didn't care whether our affairs would be known by Dominic, because I told him we were about to end our contract.
He had no more concerns.
Rhythmic knocking sounded at the door.
I shook off Dominic's hand and went to open it.
"Are you okay?"
Opening the door, I saw Darian's anxious expression.
Seeing him, Dominic immediately threw a punch.
Darian couldn't steady himself, staggered and fell to the ground, blood streaming from his nose.
I rushed over: "Dominic, are you fucking crazy? Are you insane?"
I frantically beat his chest like a madwoman.
"You set the rules. You said nobody would disturb anyone else. Now I'm following what you said - everyone plays their own games. What do you want now?"
"Do you think I'm easy to manipulate, easy to bully?"
