My face stung with fiery pain.
But I didn't make a sound, while she was the first to whimper.
"It hurts so much! Oh no, I'm going to be disfigured," Eva covered her head as blood dripped down bit by bit.
Dominic nervously supported her: "It's okay, it's okay. I'll take you to the hospital right now to get it bandaged."
"Will I be disfigured, Nicky?" Eva cried pitifully beside him.
"Don't talk nonsense. I'll take you to the hospital right now."
My heart turned completely cold at this moment.
Even though I no longer held any expectations for this person, the saying "the slap hurts the face but pains the heart" became very tangible at this moment.
He was indeed serious about Eva, serious enough to ignore all our years of feelings.
Everything turned to nothing in an instant.
"Evelyn, I'm waiting for you at the shop."
Darian's message came through.
"Let me take you to see the starry sky. The weather forecast shows a starry galaxy tonight."
Thinking of the past, Dominic and I also loved watching stars, especially lying quietly on rural rooftops, with happiness filling the entire night.
How long had it been since we went stargazing? I couldn't remember.
I didn't expect Darian would come to the company to pick me up. As soon as I came downstairs, he saw the injury on my face.
"He hit you?"
"Mm."
"I'm going to find him."
I could see Darian was truly angry.
I grabbed him: "Come back, what's the point of finding him? It's unnecessary."
"You want to get beaten up by him again?"
"Last time I held back from confronting him out of respect for you. If we really fought, he couldn't beat me."
He made me laugh.
"You can still laugh. Does your face hurt?"
He touched my face gently.
"A little bit. How about you kiss me and then it won't hurt anymore."
After saying this, I brought my face closer.
Darian blushed at my teasing. Young men are indeed fun - they blush at the slightest provocation.
"Didn't you say you'd take me to see the Milky Way? Let's go."
After saying this, I jumped onto the back seat of his motorcycle and hugged his waist tightly.
The wind whipped past us all the way. It had been so long since I'd ridden a motorcycle. This rare ride made me feel incredibly refreshed.
Darian brought me to a seaside place called Moon Bay. The sky full of stars was indeed shocking, so beautiful it made me want to cry.
Standing under the starry sky with the sea breeze blowing through my hair, all unhappiness dissolved into smoke and clouds.
Darian asked me: "How is it? Beautiful, right?"
"Mm, especially beautiful. How did you know about this place?"
"When I was in a bad mood before, I loved riding my motorcycle around everywhere. I discovered this place by accident."
"So you brought me here because you thought I was in a bad mood?"
Darian hugged me: "Would you believe me if I said I could sense it?"
Yes, someone I'd only known for a few days could constantly pay attention to my emotions. How could Dominic not know? It wasn't that he didn't know - he chose to turn a blind eye.
I turned around and found that Darian had been silently watching me. His eyes were like the stars filling the sky, sparkling and bright.
"Darian."
"Mm, I'm here."
"I like you."
"Me too."
Elder Sterling of the wolf clan returned from the holy land and called me, asking me to come home tonight for dinner together.
Dominic was already seated at the table in his suit, having arrived early to wait. He valued this Elder Sterling in the family tremendously.
After all, 30% of the shares - who wouldn't be tempted?
"Evelyn, you're back. Please sit."
I pulled out a chair and sat beside Elder Sterling.
"I know all about Dominic's affairs. Don't worry, I've already had that woman fired."
I kept my head down silently.
Elder Sterling continued: "It wasn't easy for you and Dominic to get this far. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes. He'll apologize to you today - can you forgive him?"
"I saw a property in Moon Valley City and bought it under your name. Consider it Dominic's apology gift. It's my fault for not supervising him strictly enough, letting you suffer grievances."
I had wanted to mention ending the contract, but facing Elder Sterling, it was really hard to speak up.
Elder Sterling had always treated me like his own daughter. What he said to me most often was to get along well with Dominic.
I knew he was doing this deliberately for Dominic to see, warning and reminding him.
Elder Sterling had always been good to me, consistently protecting me.
"Thank you for your kindness. Let's let the past be the past. We're family - there's no need to hurt our harmony over an outsider."
Elder Sterling patted my hand, acknowledging what I said.
Dominic, who had been silent all along, finally spoke after hearing my words: "Evelyn, I knew you were a magnanimous person. I was wrong. I'm sorry."
I looked at him and smiled.
One must act to the end.
When you're utterly disappointed in someone, your heart feels no ripples at all.
When I said it was fine, it wasn't forgiveness - I just didn't want to hurt someone who loved me.
Elder Sterling was getting old and his health wasn't what it used to be. I didn't want to upset him. Regarding ending the contract, I'd find the right opportunity to discuss it with him slowly later.
After that day, Dominic seemed like a different person, constantly trying to please me.
Previously, I had seen a haute couture jewelry piece in France but thought it too expensive and didn't buy it. To appease me, he actually bought that haute couture jewelry and gave it to me.
He really spent a fortune.
But belated affection is cheaper than grass. Moreover, he had no affection - he was doing this for the sake of the shares.
Money is indeed a good thing.
Dominic also came home more frequently, but his little lover clung to him tightly every day. He deliberately lowered his voice when taking calls: "Stop crying. Elder Sterling's decision - I have no choice. You shouldn't have provoked Evelyn at the company that day."
"You should call me less recently. That's it for now."
Without waiting for the other end to finish, he hung up directly.
"Evelyn, I bought the steak you like today. I'll cook it for you later."
How unusual.
"No thanks, I have plans tonight. You eat it yourself."
