I left without looking back.
I had dinner with Darian, and he also made the steak I liked.
It tasted different from Dominic's - it was the flavor I preferred.
After dinner, we cuddled together watching TV. This long-missed feeling made me addicted to it.
Darian kissed my forehead: "When do you plan to end the contract with him?"
I looked up and answered: "Soon."
I wrapped my arms around his waist. He kissed me from my forehead downward, his passion almost drowning me.
We spent a delightful night together.
I returned home in the early morning the next day.
Dominic was sitting on the sofa, looking like he hadn't slept all night. The ashtray was full of cigarette butts.
Seeing me come in, he came over and hugged me: "Please forgive me."
"What happened before, I was indeed wrong."
I raised my hand and pushed him away: "Dominic, forget it. From the moment you started looking for other women, we've been drifting further and further apart."
"You don't need to apologize to me."
Dominic: "Ha, it's because of that fried chicken guy, isn't it?"
His hands suddenly gripped my shoulders tightly. Having not slept all night, his eyes were filled with bloodshot veins. Now angry, his eyes were even redder, as if they would spout fire.
"Yes, even the fried chicken guy is better than you."
Dominic's breathing suddenly became rapid as he grabbed me forcefully, making me cry out in pain.
"What do you want!"
He stared at me intently: "Do you fucking know what you're saying?"
"Some fried chicken seller is worthy of being compared to me?"
"Evelyn, you've really lived too comfortably and don't know your place anymore."
"Fine, let's see if he's really better than me!"
While speaking, he dragged me into the room, threw me onto the bed, then pressed down on top of me.
No matter how I struggled, his kisses fell densely. I was thoroughly disgusted.
Dominic and I hadn't been intimate like this for a long time.
I had a cleanliness obsession, not just mentally but physically too.
Just thinking about him rolling around with other women made me sick to my stomach.
My stomach churned, making me cry from holding back the nausea.
I used all my strength to push him away.
I couldn't help but dry heave.
Dominic instantly lost interest, looking at me in disbelief: "You actually dare to find me disgusting?"
He flew into a rage: "Do you have no shame!"
I have no shame? Who's the truly shameful one here?
I closed my eyes, feeling too tired even to respond.
I sighed deeply.
With tears in my eyes: "Dominic, do you think we can go back to how things were?"
His voice suddenly softened: "Evelyn, we've had so many years of feelings. No one can compare to you."
"With all the socializing, those women threw themselves at me one by one. I refused at first, but over time, I really couldn't control myself."
"There's no man who doesn't make mistakes."
"You think being with that fried chicken guy means he won't? Men understand men best. Even love, in the end, is just like that."
"We've been through so much together. Don't you understand yet that economics is what dominates?"
"Without money, you're nothing."
"Can he afford any of the bags you carry? What do you see in him?"
Dominic lit a cigarette and looked at me pensively.
I sat up straight and said softly: "No, Dominic. When I was with you, I didn't want anything from you."
"During those years we worked hard together, what hardships didn't we endure? Did I ever complain once? I loved you, so I felt everything was worth it. What if we had no money? We were happy and free."
"People are different. Not everyone is like you, thinking cheating is justified."
"But Evelyn, I can't live without you."
I paused: "Dominic, stop deceiving yourself. Can you really not live without me? In the end, aren't you just afraid of not getting that 30% of shares?"
"When love is gone, it's gone. There's no point in binding each other."
We went from campus romance to real marriage. We witnessed each other's youth and went through ups and downs together. We should have treasured this hard-won life, but in the end, we destroyed it with our own hands.
I received a message from Eva.
"Evelyn, let's meet. Nicky and I really have nothing between us. I want to explain it to you face to face."
Then she sent me an address.
A coffee shop in the suburbs.
