After winning at Lexington Stakes, my boss Hudson was over the moon and gifted me a racecourse.
So I agreed to his marriage arrangement.
But the next day, I found all my horses dyed green!
Instructor Seren strutted out: "So what? I dye my pets all the time!"
I was shaking with rage.
She had to know the upcoming competition banned dyed horses.
Result? Lifetime ban!
She kept gloating: "I'm Xander's instructor and even I haven't gotten anywhere—what gives you the right to marry him?! Back off or I'll sell you to a fram and feed horses!"
I laughed coldly and called Xander:
"Your instructor wants to sell me to a farm. Think your father would be okay with that?"
These racing horses were all carefully bred by our corporation—each one was a prized treasure of our boss Hudson.
Once, a wealthy businessman offered hundreds of millions to buy just one horse, but Hudson never relented.
If I hadn't won three consecutive equestrian championship titles for the corporation, he never would have been willing to give them to me.
Now, if he knew the horses were being treated this way, he would definitely pursue accountability to the very end.
But considering Xander Sullivan was my fiancé, I was willing to give him a chance to explain.
Instead, he just laughed mockingly: "You're bothering me over some stupid animals? Seriously?"
My expression grew cold.
But thinking about the business interests between our two families, I swallowed my anger:
"Xander, I suggest you take that back."
"If you don't understand horses, ask your elders. Don't let this destroy our relationship."
He paused, then continued in an icy voice: "Put Seren on the phone."
I thought Xander had come to his senses and wanted to tell the instructor, Seren Carter, to back off.
Instead, I heard his voice turn sickeningly sweet through the speaker: "Seren, don't worry about my fiancée."
"However you used to handle difficult horses, handle her the same way."
"Just have fun with it."
I slowly clenched my fists.
Hudson had assured me that the Sullivan family had begged for this arrangement, and I'd never be mistreated.
Ha!
Turns out I had plenty more humiliation coming my way!
Seren cooed her agreement and casually tossed the phone at my feet.
Then she suddenly lifted her boot and stomped down hard on my phone, smashing the screen to pieces.
She sneered at me: "You're just a pawn in this marriage deal, and you actually think you're the heroine of some romance novel?"
Her gaze fell on the riding crop clenched in my hand.
Hudson had it custom-made for me when I first joined the organization, and after years of use, it was worn and scarred.
Seren stepped back in disgust: "What kind of trash thinks she can play in the big leagues? Do you think rich people are blind?"
"I'm taking over these competition horses. Not only am I dyeing them green, I'm giving them a new color every single day."
"If you don't like it, well, don't blame me when I make your life a living hell!"
She made a phone call, and soon all the facility staff came running over.
My face darkened.
HERE was Hudson's gift to me.
If the staff were going to kiss up to anyone, it should be me.
Seren was just a riding instructor, yet even the facility manager was bowing and scraping to her.
I took a deep breath and turned to the staff:
"Did you forget who signs your paychecks?"
"Fire Seren Carter right now. And if anyone else touches my horses, they're gone too!"
The moment I finished speaking, everyone burst into laughter.
Seren was laughing so hard tears streamed down her face: "Did you hear that? This trash wants to fire us!"
She walked toward me, chin raised in contempt: "Let me tell you something—everyone here only takes orders from me. Who the hell do you think you are!"
"Everyone get over here! We've got ourselves a wild bronco that needs breaking!"
The staff moved toward me with menacing grins, carrying iron hooks, branding irons, and various tools.
The sight made my blood immediately run cold.
