“Jennifer? Daeja? I think you both better tell us what the hell is going on here,” Heliodore growled.
Sexy. Fierce. Proud male. Worthy mate.
He closed the space between them. His body vibrated with pent up energy and Daeja leaned into those very vibrations until she was almost touching him.
“What are you?” he asked in a voice that swept over her spine like hands.
Hopefully, his own wonderfully long-fingered appendages would touch her in much the same way. She could not wait for their claiming. Her body swelled and moistened with need.
Soon. Very soon.
Anticipation made her body quake, though she did not understand why. The pleasure pods on her home planet had provided her with sexual stimulation in her younger years. The ship was not equipped with such, and it had been a long while.
Cass Viper and the males in his command were not supposed to touch the females. Intercourse was forbidden between Drakein until they were mated, but Cass Viper flouted their laws.
He had even tried to force Daeja, but she was repulsed by him. No, no male had ever made her feel like this.
“One moment, please, my own revolko. I will dispatch this female, then we can discuss terms,” she nodded.
“Daeja, I am not challenging you for Heliodore,” Jennifer growled, and shook her head angrily, but not before another male came storming over.
“Good, because you will not stop me. He is mine,” Daeja stated aloud.
The small corridor reverberated with shocked gasps and exclamations. They would get used to it, she was certain.
“The fuck? What is going on here? Jennifer? Dor?” one of her mate’s brothers spoke up.
“Conny, shut up. Jennifer, what the hell? Who is she?”
Daeja inhaled deeply. She had not noticed it before, but now it was unmistakable. Her inner Drakein hissed and growled.
“Four brothers,” she whispered. “Your scent. Your physique. It can’t be,” she said, eyes going wide.
No. It could not be. But somehow, it was. The male who’d stalked over, the one her mate had called Conny, looked both betrayed and pissed as hell. Anger rolled off him in waves.
“Yes, we are four brothers—”
“Shut up, Dor! Don’t tell her anything. We know nothing about her.”
“I’m telling you, Conny, back the fuck off,” Heliodore snarled.
Daeja’s body slickened more. He was fearsome and glorious in his rage, coming to her defense.
Conny shoved him, and Daeja hissed, leaped in front of Heliodore. The sound echoed from behind her, and she reveled in his power.
“Get behind me,” he growled.
“No, you must stop warring among yourselves. There is much you do not know,” Daeja said, eyeing the male sin the room.
Her heart thudded inside her chest. Without ever meaning to, she had done as her hated Commander had ordered. Daeja had found them.
“I have been sent here to find you,” Daeja stated, resuming a professional stance.
“To find me?” Heliodore asked, and she closed her eyes, swaying slightly on her feet.
“Yes. But also your brothers.”
“What?”
“Us?”
“She’s into brothers?”
“How?”
All four males spoke at the same time, and Daeja shook her head impatiently. Males were all the same! Ugh.
“You are them. Four brothers. Four males. Four stasis pods sent far away to a planet capable of sustaining life. Four Drakein males. The legend of the Flamebound princes. It is you!” Daeja exclaimed,
A mix of dread and excitement filled her as the room exploded into chaos. Heliodore stared in disbelief, hands on his hips. He shook his head, backing away from her, and the pain she felt at his retreat cut like a razor.
But Daeja had other things to consider. The four Flamebound princes who’d been whisked away to the Earth in stasis pods were real!
But how did they grow into adults? They were to remain as younglings until triggered by a Drakein.
How is any of this possible?
Suddenly, she realized. Jennifer Dylluan. The female Shifter leader. She knew!
“They are my quarry! I told you all, and you told me nothing. You knew, didn’t you?” Daeja spat angrily at Jennifer.
Arms wide, she pointed at them all. Taking in the four enormous men who were practically vibrating with power.
“Please understand, I am their handler, Daeja. They are under my protection and the protection of the DPCA—”
Daeja growled her displeasure, the sound of it loud in the small space. The Flamebound princes replied in kind, unable to remain stoic in the face of a female’s displeasure, as was their nature.
“Boys! You must settle down!” the one they called father said, but he was not their true father.
This was all very confusing to Daeja.
“You withheld information, Jennifer Dylluan. When we struck our bargain, you promised to help me find the stasis pods, to rescue my apakein! You are untrustworthy and loathsome. I have been tricked!”
Daeja tossed her head back and roared her anger at being deceived.
“Daeja,” Jennifer said her name, raising her arms to stave off her anger, but it was no use.
Scales sprouted along her skin and wings unfurled from her back through the hidden slits in her traveling suit. Females in their half-shift were small, but deadly.
Daeja planned to prove it, but two males stood in her way. Heliodore and the one called Conny.
“Easy, siren,” her mate growled, his eyes taking in every inch of her while all she wanted to do was answer the challenge to her honor the other woman had made.
“Daeja, please, let’s talk—”
“I am not interested in conversation, Jennifer Dylluan!”
“Then talk to me, siren,” Heliodore proposed.
Daeja growled her frustration. She wanted vengeance. But she also wanted him.
And not necessarily in that order.
