"I like this change of pace," Y/N noted aloud as she pulled her jacket down a bit. "It's nice to relax once in a while. The past few days have been way too chaotic for comfort."
Saiki nodded in agreement as he buttoned up his shirt.
The group had decided to give the indoor pool a visit this evening, right after dinner- which they had an hour early. It was still just a bit after lunchtime, and the teachers had given them a "free day" due to what occurred yesterday.
Of course, the two took advantage of that. The two were supposed to stay inside the hotel and relax, but Y/N would like to state:
Fuck that.
Saiki didn't mind either. His friends were going to leave him alone for once, and it was perfect for some relaxation. That is if his companion doesn't tire him the hell out by the end of the afternoon.
The two were going to head out to the cafe for a bit. Kusuo was practically drooling at the thought of tasting the Coffee Jelly he had last time once more.
"Saiki, are you ready to go?" Y/N called out, swinging her bag over her shoulder with a grin. "I'll pay today, maybe."
The psychic squinted at the maybe. "So, are you paying or not?"
Her smile brightened up even more. "We'll see. Come on. There might be a line if we wait any further. It's almost work hours."
Kusuo scoffed at her indecisive answer. Damn tease. He followed her steps, and they left the hotel room with the pinkette ensuring the door had closed properly.
The two travelled down the elevator. In the meantime, Y/N was continuing her chatter about- anime guys? Whatever. Saiki was lost in thought, trying his best to keep on track with her babbling, yet he couldn't help but wonder.
Something was bothering him about their relationship. It was weird to him because he'd never really let someone be this close to him. Maybe with other people, they didn't look that friendly, but it sure felt otherwise. Saiki was starting to piece that the reason Y/N didn't feel like an annoyance was that she was...
Undeniably average? Hm. That didn't seem to fit, either.
"Hey, Saiki, are you listening?"
Kusuo looked at his companion with his usual expression.
"I'll take that as a 'no.' Whatever, just binge Balance: Unlimited with me some time! It's worth it; I promise," she said with a determined look.
"Whatever," the male responded, as payback for Y/N not denying or confirming that she would be treating him or not. "We'll see."
"You're a jerk. I hope you know that."
"Yes, yes. I know."
They arrived at the cafe, and Y/N went ahead to push her hand against the glass door. It didn't budge.
She gave it a strange look, pushing it again. Again, nothing. The L/N looked annoyed, giving it one last shove before looking at the label on the door.
"Please pull on the door."
Y/N sheepishly pulled the door handle as it opened swiftly. Saiki was totally not smiling mockingly behind her back right now.
"Pretty stupid, aren't you?"
The H/C-hair coloured girl gave him a quick glare before heading for the counter where the staff stood and gave them a kind smile. "Seat for 2, please."
They nodded and guided them to a seat. "Let me know when you're ready to order! Would you guys like water or tea?"
"Tea, please," both of the students answered.
"Alright, give me a moment!" they gave a classic customer service smile and walked off to where the backdoor was.
"Hum. Saiki, can you tell if anyone from our school or knows Japanese is nearby?"
The mentioned male nodded. "Nobody's near."
"Good. I have a few questions, and I'm hoping you would be willing to answer them," Y/N said in a slightly more serious tone. "Please."
Saiki sat there silently for a moment or two before he gave out a heavy sigh. "Fine. You deserve the truth anyway, I guess."
"Great," said Y/N. "My first question is whether or not anybody else knows about your powers."
"That's a weird question," Saiki responded somewhat defensively. "Only two people know. Aiura and the purple-haired pervert, Toritsuka."
Y/N's face scrunched at the mention of Reita. "Why does he know, of all people?"
"Because he's a medium. A psychic in a different way, you could say."
"Fair enough. What about Nendo, Teruhashi and the others? They don't know?"
Saiki shook his head.
"Would you ever be willing to tell them?"
He looked hesitant, not answering at the moment.
"They deserve to know."
Kusuo nodded in agreement. "I know that, but this is a personal thing. I don't want to be known as a psychic. I merely want to live a simple life as a boring guy. I'd rather tell them in the late future, hopefully when my powers disappear."
"You're quite talkative today," Y/N noted with a smirk. "I'm glad I can get to know you more."
Saiki rolled his eyes. "Aren't you lucky that I'm pouring my heart out to you?"
"Not really. Kind of tiring, to be honest."
Y/N noticed the opposite, staring at her blankly with a slight glare. Just a tiny difference in his expression- Which was enough to make her crack. "-Pffft, I'm joking! I'm happy you feel like you can tell me stuff."
"I knew that," Saiki responded, crossing his arms.
"I'm sure you did," Y/N teased. At that moment, the waiter had returned with a platter.
"Sorry, here's your tea! Are you guys ready to order?"
Saiki nodded. "Coffee jelly, please."
"Nice choice!" the waiter complimented. "It's one of my favourite desserts, too. Would you like additional whipped cream?"
The pinkette glanced at his friend with what seemed to be a smirk and responded, "Yes."
She replied to his smug look with a distasteful frown before making her order. "Hmm, I'll try the Creamy Lavender Flan."
They scribbled down the orders and rushed off. "It'll be ready in around 15 minutes!"
Y/N waved at them as they took off, awkwardly, before turning back to her friend. "I don't think I have any other questions for you, honestly."
"Good. It was getting annoying."
That was a lie. Saiki didn't mind at all. It wasn't too bad of a feeling to talk about this stuff a bit. Well, it wasn't as troublesome as talking about them to his fellow psychics due to the fact Y/N's reactions were, rather, toned down.
"Awh, sorry. I'm just curious. One last question, though. What's the deal? You a God or something?"
Kusuo raised an eyebrow. "How vague."
"Sorry, sorry. Why are your powers like that? Are you just born that powerful, or did something happen for you to gain them?" Y/N pestered on.
He didn't answer this time; just gave her a shrug.
"Interesting..."
"What is?"
Y/N stared him down and answered with a simper: "You."
"Why?"
"Well, usually, people would want to show off. You're the complete opposite. Is it because your powers are that much of a drag?"
Saiki shook his head. "You have no idea."
"Give me an idea of it. Help me understand," Y/N coached, her hand on her cheeks as she kept on interrogating Saiki. "Maybe I can be of help."
"You could help by leaving me alone," Saiki responded rudely.
Y/N frowned at his insult, quieting down. There was a slight tinge of guilt that hit the pinkette, but he brushed it off.
Not soon later, the waiter returned with their orders, and before Y/N could dig her spoon down onto the flan, Saiki tapped her platter with his utensil.
"What?"
Saiki shoved his jelly towards her and motioned his hands towards it. "Try some."
Y/N caught on (or so she thought). That was his apology, you could say. With a sly grin, she took a huge scoop and gulped it down. "Thanks, it was really good."
And thus, Kusuo was left with half a coffee jelly.
He gripped down on his spoon hard enough where it bent. "Damn you."
Y/N hummed, scooping down on her dessert. She didn't answer his swearing, in hopes of pissing him off a bit more.
"Saiki, Y/N, would you guys like to go to the indoor pool with us later on tonight?" Teruhashi's light, high-pitched voice questioned, her eyes darting between the two.
"I bet Saiki is dying to see me in a bathing suit..."
"I'm dying, but for a different reason," Saiki thought to himself miserably.
Y/N smiled at the invitation. "I'd like to. Not sure about Saiki, but I'll go and chill at the ledge or something. As much as I like swimming, I think I've had enough of water thanks to yesterday..."
She laughed softly at her remark while Teruhashi let out a nervous chuckle.
"Ahaha, yeah..." Teruhashi replied before giving her a look. "I don't think you should joke about that because it might've been traumatizing for some of us!" The blueberry scolded.
Y/N's face darkened as she frowned slightly. "M'kay..."
"That should make Saiki like her less. After all, she was so careless with her words! If Saiki were even a bit sensible, he'd be on my side. He's probably thinking about how perfect I am for speaking up for him! No need to thank me, Saiki."
To Saiki's surprise, Y/N seemed to have caught onto the blue-haired girl's malice and turned away. "The two of us will meet you at the entrance of the pool in two hours. How does that sound?"
Teruhashi forced a smile. "That sounds great!"
It did not, according to the raging about how Y/N was hogging Saiki to herself, mentally.
Y/N stood up rather abruptly and headed for the elevator, waiting for the ride back to her room. Saiki stayed seated on the couch of the lobby with Teruhashi across from him.
He stared helplessly at his friend who'd dumped him with the troublesome girl.
"Saiki, how has your day been? I hope Y/N's remark earlier didn't trigger you or anything," Teruhashi said in a honey-sweet tone, a pout on her face as she talked about the experience 'empathetically.'
The pink-haired male shook his head. That gesture made the female feel like it was alright for her to keep speaking.
"Honestly, that was pretty careless of her... She should watch her words more, or she'll regret it one day."
This conversation was pissing him off.
"That's true," Saiki agreed telepathically instead of speaking, as Y/N had left.
"R-Right?" Teruhashi said. "You know, sometimes I wonder why people like being around her... At first, nobody noticed her, but when I spoke to her, she suddenly got all this attention. But, remember what she said earlier? She's so overbearing! How can people stand her?"
"Maybe it's because you don't know her well enough to realize she's pleasant to be around yet."
Saiki's expression was hostile, to say the least. Without another word, he stood up and headed for the elevator.
"It barely took anything for her to show her true colours, huh."
He arrived back at his door and swiped his card before stepping in. His roommate sat upon her bed with headphones on, rocking herself around a bit to the music.
Saiki glanced at her figure with a gaze you could describe as tender if you analyzed closely enough.
"I think I'll take a nap in the meantime."
