It was finally the day of the groups' hiking trip. At first, they were unsure of where to go but decided on a place that had a waterfall as one of the main attractions. Kaidou seemed hyped about this, being the overdramatic Chuunibyu he is.
"Yes! A beautiful place such as a waterfall must be protected by me. I will go there and keep it safe from the Dark Reunion!" He had declared the night before, pumping his fists.
Aren, however, glanced at the half-chihuahua in slight worry. He knew how pathetically weak the white-haired friend was, wondering if Kaidou would make it through the hike okay.
Anyways. Back to the present, Saiki had woken up with a throbbing headache, which went away fairly quickly. But, what bugged him the most was the dream- no, precognition. The person he'd so desperately tried to save in it was cut out. He couldn't remember the person's face or voice at all. This... hasn't happened before.
Y/N noticed he was slightly off his game first thing. "Saiki, are you okay?"
...Deja vu?
The psychic nodded. He shouldn't make other people worry. Putting on his usual facade, he spoke: "I'm alright."
Y/N smiled. "That's good. If you're feeling unwell, you should say so. We're hiking, after all. What if you accidentally lose your balance?"
She melodramatically, dropped onto his shoulder, a hand on her forehead as she cried out in a mocking theatrical voice. "Oh, how terrible that would be!"
Saiki sighed. He didn't know whether to feel happy she was opening up so much nowadays or...
Or what? At most, he felt amused at her antics. This was something he was pondering on. Her doing that wasn't much different from his other friends' actions that he found painfully irritating, but when it was Y/N, it just felt. Different.
Y/N huffed, sitting back up straight. "Hmph, no reaction?"
The two were placed on Saiki's bed. They were waiting for the clock to strike 11:15 AM before making their way to the lobby. Aiura and Kuboyasu had already headed downstairs. The two had knocked on their doors to let them know first.
The large group had planned to meet up there at 11:30, so they still had a lot of time left to waste. Well, wasting time, by Y/N's definition, seemed to be to attempt to annoy the living shit out of her roommate.
She was failing, surprisingly.
Saiki was simply feeling pent-up at the fact that every time the girl leaned onto him, his mind would just- poof- and the loud voices in his head would disappear.
Dammit, won't you just pick one and stick to it, Mr. Brain?!
He was losing his mind over this. It was so, so annoying. Eventually, Saiki just went fuck it.
The psychic placed his back on Y/N's shoulder, leaning in while the rest of his body slumped.
Y/N flinched back slightly in surprise before tapping her pink-haired companion on his head twice. "Hey, Saiki? What're you doing?"
"Laying down."
"Laying down on me?" She pointed out, tapping his hair thrice now.
Saiki nodded. Finally; his mind was at peace. Subconsciously he'd nuzzled his head even more onto her shoulder. Y/N softened at his action.
"He's... really adorable."
Y/N let him continue leaning against her, simply pulling out her phone to play games until the alarm she'd set for 11:15 went off.
Until then, the two had enjoyed each other's company.
"I can hear the sound of the waterfall already!" Y/N cheered, prancing around the edges. Kuboyasu pulled her back with a sigh.
"You're gonna fall," he reprimanded.
Y/N stuck her tongue out at him; "You're not my mom!"
Aren sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. Saiki, too, scoffed at her behaviour.
The H/C-haired girl was rather enthusiastic about the hike. Water is a fascinating thing, after all. Rivers, waterfalls, rushing waters; it just all seemed so beautiful to her.
Saiki had originally intended to be in the back but decided to move upfront to be beside Y/N. Just to make sure she doesn't fall or anything, of course.
"Heyy! My senses are telling me to travel-" Kaidou interrupted, dramatically reaching for his face while the other hand pointed at a different path. "That way, for it is rich with powers that I must either obtain or defeat!"
The group kind of just stared at him with this... look. It was pitiful, to say the least, but since he insisted that they went there, Aren agreed to go with him along with Nendo.
"That's three annoyances out of the way."
Right, you must be wondering why Nendou was with them, right? Well, the group he was in had either ditched him or decided to just let him do whatever. Nendo, not realizing how bad his reputation was, took this as a kind-hearted gesture and decided to hike with his buddies instead.
Of course, this earned a few sorry glances.
Chiyo glanced longingly after her crush, pondering if she should follow suit and go with Kaidou. Teruhashi, on the other hand, was trying to think of ways to be alone with Saiki.
"Urgh. I should've told Chiyo to go with Kaidou and maybe I can get Saiki to dump that stupid L/N! Of course, he would; who WOULDN'T want to be with the perfect girl alone after all?"
Two more go to.
There was a slight curve in paths which also stretched downwards, making it possibly slippery because of the river that was just below, too. Y/N slid down carefully first, checking for a safe place to go down from.
"Guys, just follow this path down, it's the easiest one! There are a few bumps you can use as steps if you're scared of slipping."
The group continued down, but it was narrowing a bit towards the bridge.
"I suggest we go in partners!" Teruhashi announced, sneaking glances towards Saiki with a victorious grin.
"I'm giving you this glorious chance to be alone with me. You're welcome, Saiki! Ehehehe~ What if he holds my hand as we walk on the bridge, bravely telling me not to be afraid?"
What sort of dumb fantasy-fiction was playing in her head now...?
"I agree," Yumehara nodded her head. "I wouldn't mind being alone with Saiki, to be honest!"
Saiki was honestly freaked out at this point. Surely Y/N wouldn't mind if he announced to partner with her, right?
Well, it was better than the other choices, anyway. So of course, this was the most logical decision to make.
He opened his mouth to speak, but-
"Saiki, do you wanna go with me?" Y/N invited.
He closed his mouth. Well then.
Saiki nodded, keeping his deadpan expression while masking the slight surprise he felt. He didn't expect Y/N to ask him first.
Teruhashi was fuming.
"That... witch! How dare she?! I mustn't show my anger... but she took this moment away from me! I bet Saiki was too shy to decline. Or maybe he was trying to make me jealous. Hmph!"
Y/N wasn't oblivious to her malice. She saw right through the facade but chose not to address it, regardless of how uncomfortable it made her. She wasn't the type to make things awkward.
Chiyo smiled, hooking her arm around Teruhashi. "I guess I'm with you then!"
Teruhashi looked back with a chuckle, grinning back. "Yep!"
The two duos went towards the bridge, with Teruhashi and Chiyo crossing first. The reasoning behind this was that Y/N was interested in taking a few pictures of the scenery beforehand.
The two got across and Saiki had to drag Y/N away.
"The railings are kind of unstable," she noted with a slightly uneasy grin as they continued walking. Saiki nodded in agreement.
They were almost there, having made it right to the pathway stretching to where the bridge ended, when-
Snap.
The strings attaching the suspension bridge towards the end they were reaching for had broken off, dropping the remaining two down and landing them on the rocks.
Unfortunately for Y/N, she'd landed on a slanted stepping.
"SHIT!" She blurted out, grabbing for another rock but, she was flailing her arms upwards.
Y/N had fallen backwards. Her head was heading towards the river. Where all the pointier chips were.
"Fuck."
Her mind was no longer functioning at the normal speed. All she could think of was, essentially, how screwed she was at that moment.
The momentary feeling of loss was put at a pause when a hand gripped at her wrists.
The L/N girl snapped back into reality and glanced at the light skin glazing onto hers, and she quickly took the moment to put her foot down onto a surface. That wasn't enough, though.
After all, they were still 125 metres above the rushing waters.
The moss that grew upon the rocks was making this a lot harder for them. Not to mention, Saiki was barely hanging on to a rock as well. He'd risked himself too; reaching out for Y/N as he was still on the uneven surfaces you can barely call ground.
Teruhashi and Chiyo were screaming, one of them trying to call for help. Unluckily for them, the reception didn't work this deep into the trails.
Y/N took in a breath and called out to them; "Go look for a centre of some sort, or other people and call them for help!"
Yumehara cried back out, "But we can help pull you up!"
"And risk all four of us falling in? At most, one of you stays behind and helps. We need to find someone for help!"
"I can use my psychic powers and erase their memories later," Saiki reprimanded himself and attempted to use telekinesis, superstrength- ANYTHING.
Of course, that wasn't possible as he gripped onto Y/N's wrists. Slipping away from his grasp.
This was all turning out like his nightmare. His premonition. Shit, shit, shit, shit...
Although, there was one different thing.
"Y/N," Saiki mustered up, calling her name. She glanced back up at him with a tired look.
It was a good thing she noticed a good place she could try to pull her left arm up towards to get a grip, no?
She reached for it. Gravity is a hoe, but Y/N managed to get her hands upon that one spot and use her left leg to push herself up. Saiki pulled her up, too.
Y/N stumbled upwards with Saiki following suit, the two of them entering safe grounds at last. She dropped onto Saiki, her right ankle having been twisted when she'd landed on that slated surface from earlier.
"Oh my god..." she breathed, still processing everything. Teruhashi and Chiyo rushed over worriedly, checking on the two.
Y/N limped back up, leaning against a trunk as the others gathered themselves. Saiki, though...
He felt like this was the right moment.
Y/N spoke up first: "Teruhashi, Chiyo, you guys should go find help. We'll stay here and wait for you guys. I can't walk right now and I think Saiki might still be in shock, so it's best if you guys go search."
"I'm fine, but I appreciate the thoughtfulness."
So that was a fucking lie.
The two females nodded, going off to find someone to help. Saiki turned back to Y/N with a strange look.
"Saiki, are you oka-"
"Who are you?"
Y/N paused to look at him like he was crazy.
"What?"
"L/N Y/N, who are you?"
